Blog: There is NO Action
Posted at 10-14-2009 21:22

Warning: This is a piece of philosophy that I came up with. You have been warned.

I've gone through my life where people have always told me if I want something done I have to take action and do it. While many of you have probably heard this from somebody, after a lot of thought, I believe that there is no such thing as action.

Everything in this world is base on REACTION. Whether you do or do not, you are reacting to something all the time. Everything that happens can ALWAYS create the question of "Why is this happening?"

For instance, consider the following:
You are reading this blog. -> Why are you reading this blog? -> Because I saw the post -> Why did you see the post? -> Because I logged onto chapter cheats -> Why did you log onto chapter cheats? -> Because I wanted to see what was new with video games. -> Why do you want to know what is new with video games? -> Because I like video games. -> Why do you like video games? -> Because they are fun. -> Why are they fun? -> Because the creators made it that way -> Why did the creators make it that way? -> Because they want to sell a lot of video games -> Why do they want to sell a lot of video games? -> Because they want to make more money. -> Why do they want to make more money? -> Because everybody likes to make more money. -> Why does everybody like to make more money? -> Because it makes life easier -> Why does money make life easier? -> Because it allows you to buy food (for example). -> Why does it allow you to buy food? -> Because money can be traded for food. -> Why do you need to trade money for food? -> Because I do not grow my own food -> Why do you not grow your own food? -> Because I don't have the time to do it -> Why do you not have the time to do it? -> etc. etc. etc.

As you can see, this could go on until we wind up back in the stone age. But, look at it this way, the reason you are looking at this blog is a reaction to you not having time to grow your own food.

So in short, this is my philosophy.

1. There is no such thing as action
2. Everything in life is a reaction to something else.
3. Every reaction can be traced with a "Why" question
4. Every reaction will have another reaction to follow.

Now, much like any philosophy class, this is open to discussion... or datcussion I'd just like to know what people think other than "Long post = headache"

That's not always true. You said that:

You are reading this blog. -> Why are you reading this blog? -> Because I saw the post -> Why did you see the post? -> Because I logged onto chapter cheats -> Why did you log onto chapter cheats? -> Because I wanted to see what was new with video games.

That's as far as it goes because when I come on CC I check whats new. I come on CC because it's like a daily routine. I don't think why I come on CC at all, and obviously I do not trace why I made the action, nor does tracing it affect why I do it.

You say we react to things instead of acting, which in itself does not make sense. Even when you back up your points by using those 4 rules, they are corrupt in themselves.

In reference to your example given, you are saying that we look at this blog because we do not have the time to grow our own food? This is where our action comes from?

It's hard to even understand what your point is, clearly you are saying that we do not make actions but react to other things, which are actions we have made anyway, but you say that everything we do is a reaction. A reaction to a previous thought? Where does an out of the blue action come from? Or a made up idea?

In short, i'm saying your philosophy does not make sense. Sorry if i'm not making sense, I had a better reply earlier but my computer froze on me

I probably shouldn't have skipped the middle bit
but if everything is a reaction there most have been one action to start if off right?

like the old saying goes for every avtion there must be a reaction example

i got up late so i was late for school (i know crap example but i could only think of tht one)

gamerman: I understand that it is hard to understand... that's ok... I like that you gave a response to it. you say that you came to CC because it is a routine, but why is it a routine?

it took me a while until this theory donned on me, and even then it took me a while to figure it out. like most philosophy, it doesn't make sense at the beginning.

game chicken: I do agree with you that there had to be one action to start everything in motion, but that is beyond what humans can understand... it involves the beginning of time itself... but then my theory can even create a paradox as to why time began.

suppose you believe in creation and that God created the universe... typically, that could be the action that started it all, but then you could ask "Why did God create the universe?"... perhaps he was reacting to something?

or perhaps you believe in the Big Bang Theory. All of the matter in the universe collected together and exploded... but why did the matter start to collect together?

It makes me believe that there is no such thing as well as the beginning of time, nor will there ever be an end of time (though our planet may die, time will live on and things will continue to react to each other).

I understand why you'd think that, but I accept and believe that everything has to have a start.

"or perhaps you believe in the Big Bang Theory. All of the matter in the universe collected together and exploded... but why did the matter start to collect together? "

This is interesting, but not because we don't know why it happened (if it responded to something) but because we'll never know why the universe was created as we do not have enough Scientific evidence.

The creation of the universe is hard to understand because imagining what was there before it (Nothingness) is beyond the comprehension of the human mind. This is what forces people to start beliveing in their own theories, something they can believe in.

and it is for that reason that I've been starting to believe that there has NEVER been a beginning of time...

lol, this is why I loved philosophy in college... it can be taken so many ways and be discussed openly and believed or not believed...

Well, it is only the Big Bang theory that creates our Universe, the other universes out there, perhaps an infinite amount.

Perhaps the universe is infinite...

Anyway, to keep on topic, this could link to your theory.
