Blog: Back into Shape
Posted at 10-20-2009 11:04

Well, i decided to get off my ass and start getting back into shape again for the Military. For the past 3-4 days i've been doing the standard pushups, situps, arm curls, and all that fun stuff. I was a little disapointed the first 2 days because i could only do about 10-15 pushups before collapsing in exaustion.

I am proud to say that on the 4th day, i did almost 100 pushups it seems i still have all my strength, it was just laying dormant while i sat around doing nothing.

Now, all I have to do is work through this inch of "Padding" and I'll be back to my former self! It feels good to have exercise pains again ha ha ha!

In this new light, i encourage all the members of CC, that don't already, to join me in this Taking-Back-Your-Body. Just do a buncha pushups and what nots before you go to sleep. It doesn't take much more than 10-20 minutes. It does, however, take a great deal of discipline that i know many of us lack.

It may suck at first, but it sure beats getting fat and old before you're mid-aged!

Remember, if you start young and get into the habit, it becomes easier when your older, and for the younger members of CC -

You may not care now, but if you start doing pushups and situps, by the time you do care, you'll be a prime piece of work for the other sex. When i was 13 i could do almost 100 pushups in one go. Trust me, its very much worth the effort. Plus, if you can discipline yourself, there is less of a need for it to come from others.

Bottom Line - There is no down side to this!

I agree with him here. Even if it isn't necessarily pushups, any type of exercise is always good, especially at a younger age. I let myself go and it is definitely harder to discipline myself for that, that is why I am taking martial arts.

Granted some exercises are harder for others (trust me, my 240 lbs. frame makes pushups quite hard), eventually you build up to it. Because of my martial arts and becoming more flexable, I'm probably the only 5'6" 240 pounder out there that can kick a 6'5" guy in the head, and that is only after 1 month of training.

There are plenty of activities to get in shape. Many people choose weights and going to a gym because it gets results. My problem with that is that it is boring, and probably a lot of you can vouch for that, which is why martial arts is appealing. But, even that, even just walking through tough terrain can be fun, especially if you have Holy Diver blasting through your iPod. The problem with that though is if you live in a big city, the roughest terrain you have is the sidewalk.

Here are a list of things that I came up with while deciding on what I should do for exercise.

Gym
Pros: A lot of weight training can get results fast
Cons: Can be too repetitive and become boring, can be pricey depending on the gym
Walking/Jogging/Running
Pros: Can get the heart-rate up for a good cardio workout, doesn't cost anything
Cons: Can be boring unless you find new places to walk
Aerobics
Pros: Can get the heart-rate up and can do so in the comfort of home or an inside place
Cons: Repetitive at times
Yoga
Pros: Good way to tone muscles and stretch the body
Cons: Won't get ripped as quickly
Sports
Pros: Depending on the sport, a good way to get a cardio workout and meet other people. Usually fresh everyday.
Cons: Can be expensive to learn/play, depending on the sport.
Martial Arts:
Pros: Good cardio workout, teaches self-defense techniques
Cons: Can be very expensive to learn

Overall, it depends on what you need and what you can afford. Walking by far is the cheapest way to go, and probably the one requiring the least amount of skill.

Regardless, everybody should at least get some activity. I know that pimpske is going for the military, so he's got his reasons. The biggest thing is to have motivation behind what you do, else you will fail.

i am naturally thin and i dont feel pain for a couple of hours
but its annoying that i look weak so people try to bully me which doesn't work seeing how i fight dirty
but it is annoying so i might start doing more exercise aimed at muscle not speed and agility

to tell you the truth chicken, I think that muscle is over-rated. if you're naturally thin, make sure you find ways to maintain that. building up muscle mass can sometimes cause you to be slower, but if you can build up mass and continue to work on speed, you'll be a force in anything physical that you do. look at a picture of Bruce Lee without a shirt. The man was ripped to no end but he was also insanely fast that he could punch you hard and bring his hand back before your head even moved from the reaction.

here is what some people do to improve muscle tone as well as build speed. at some athletic shops they sell weighted vests (a bit pricey but can help out a lot). the vests have sand-bags in them that add to your overall weight, upwards of 50 lbs or more. what some people do when they train is wear the vest all day. at first they move slower because that's a lot of weight added onto you, but as they progress, they slowly build up to the speed they were before the added the weight... THEN when they take the vest off, they find that they are MUCH faster and more agile then they were before because your body thinks that it doesn't have to support as much weight.

before trying anything like that though, I'd suggest doing some research. I haven't tried it yet but I would wear one of those in a heartbeat.

I hate people that fight dirty - the ONLY time you should ever fihgt dirty is if your life is in danger... Trust me, in school yards, strength is absolutely useless. There are a few handy tricks that make it so you can end a fight seconds after it starts, and nobody will get seriously hurt
A quick jab to the trachea
A quick jab to the diaphram
Grab an arm or fingers and use them to your advantage - Note that you're not trying to break the opponents fingers, instead just keep they at bay so they won't attack you.

Things like biting, spitting, scratching, hair pulling, throwing dirt, these are all disgusting methods of fighting that, like i said, you should ONLY use if your life as you know it is about to end.

i generally use punches to the neck and sweep their feet out underneath them for most people
and if there is alot of them pulling out a knife works very well as they run off then
but i only did that once and now people don't try anything with me
